Rescue of the Pound Dog

One day Ollie and I went up to visit with Alyssa and her children. She had gotten a call that their dog Quincy had been found. He had bolted from their car when they were in the Wal-Mart parking lot. As it turned out the kind people who picked him up and took home, did that as Alyssa was frantically looking for him and had they waited they would have seen her.... probably.






This is our version of Animal Control.














There were stray cats there too. The cat room was much quieter than the dog room.

We got that dog home and he seemed so contrite and grateful to be rescued from the pound and the children were glad to have him back.

Sabbath Day

Today was our Stake Conference and it was a good one. Our new Stake President likes to call people out of the congregation. He did that Saturday Adult Session and Sunday too. The people that he called on did such a great job "bearing their testimonies" I wonder what their messages might be if given time to prepare. However the two sisters who were called on mentioned that they just had feelings that perhaps they would be asked to speak. One brother was our old Stake President's Dad. Brother Hyde is probably about 80 years old and still "rides the range" collecting his cattle. He said he doesn't see very well, and the two Spanish guys, who he obviously loves a lot, told him there were cows and pointed them out to him. Brother Hyde said, "Those aren't cows those are rocks" a bit later the guy, who didn't speak English well ask the other to interpret, and tell Bro. Hyde, " those rocks down there are moving". I'm sure that wasn't as funny with my interpretation, but it was quite funny when he told the story.
We have a new Mission President and his wife. Our old President, Andres needed to go to Salt Lake City for cancer treatments therefore he was released. This new Mission President McCrackin was sent as a Mission President to Bolivia but needed to be released when his wife became too ill to go on. She seems well now. They were ask into Elder Holland's office last Tuesday, they packed Wednesday, moved out on Thursday, flew out on Friday and started work on Saturday and spoke in Fallon Saturday and Sunday. She said in 3 days she has given 6 talks and she isn't one that enjoys speaking.
A member of the Temple Presidency spoke and his wife also. It reminded me of the experiences that I have had in the temple this new year. I had been having a hard time getting to the temple, it just seemed that thing after thing took priority. The new years resolution for me was to go to the temple once a week until March. I didn't mention it to anyone, just knowing how things go (you know). The first week I got ready to go, told LaVar what my plans were and just drove to Reno a hour away. The next week a friend said she was interested in going with me, it was a great time. The week next she drove and we took the other Relief Society Sisters that signed up for that day. The week after that LaVar went with me. Then Ralph and Cecile were able to go the next week, Ralph fell and cut his head and he still wanted to go and even drove. It has just gone that way. This last Thursday was the crowning day so far. I saw things I have never seen before, I heard things I have never heard before and I felt things I have never felt before. It was most remarkable. I think I have a clearer idea what LaVar and I need to be doing, not really ready to say much about that yet, but it feels so good. Of course LaVar had already worked out these things in his mind. I just needed a witness myself. I love to have a direction in our life.
I think when we had all you guys at home and we needed to make a decision the Lord just spoke with clarity above the din. Now he expects more introspection more time given to meditation. More from us. So you with children all around it's not possible, and I understand that. I am not saying you need to do this. Your Heavenly Father knows you are doing the best thing ever, but as one gets older and has more choices for our time, and we need direction like always, he just might expect more. When the sweet sweet Spirit comes it is just like a fresh breeze in a "funky" ( like Ollie would say) room that is too warm. I am a bit amazed at the power I feel to stay focused and power to accomplish. Tomorrow? I hope I can sustain these feelings.
Nothing in my experience is as sweet as these feelings, though being with you guys and your "yiddle" (Ollie again) ones comes very close. Have I told you yet today how much you mean to me? I love each one of you dearly. Only the love of the Lord means more to me than you do, and it is a very close second. I live for the days I can be near you, my puzzle is that I can't be with all of you at any one time. I need to leave my husband to be with you guys and visa versa. Even when I go to Utah I can't be with two families for very long etc. Its just the way it is. But I love to visit and we will be happy to family hop and spread around. We are just happy that for now you are pretty much in one area. Though Tim and Laura rocked the boat for now. Thank you for being so precious and easy to love. We are so proud of each one of you and we are grateful, and pray for each of you several times a day. Thank you for all the good you do for your families, and others. We love you we truely do. I started my post about staying at Tyler and Charlotte's before dad did the Valentine thing and it got put under that one so go down a post to see mine... darn thing!

My Valentine

Since you young women did this I thought maybe I should.

1. What is her name? Judy Hightower Huntzinger
2. How long have we been together? Married 37 years - I met her about a year before we married.
3. Who eats more? me, but not a lot more.
4. Who said I love you first? I did -- I think.
5. Who is taller? I am, but Judy didn't think that when we got married. Her previous boyfriend was a tall basketball player so I think she just thought of me as way short. Compared to him I am.
6. Who sings better? Judy, by a long way.
7. Who is smarter? I score better on the tests -- if we mean intelligence the light of truth then it is Judy.
8. Who does the laundry? Thankfully it is Judy. She made a point of teaching all of the kids to do their own laundry (perhaps some have forgotten how); but she never did try to train me to do my own laundry.
9. Who does the dishes? I think we both do, but maybe I don't do my share.
10. Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? I do. We are used to it that way. It is interesting that Stephanie has this thing about the closet door. So does Judy, For some reason the closet is a really concerning place. It doesn't affect where we sleep but the closet door has to be SHUT.
11. Who pays the bills? Usually I do, but not always -- and the unreliability of that arrangement can, and on occasion has, caused problems.
12. Who mows the lawn? I am sorry that it is usually Judy. I think I should do that but I usually don't and so Judy does. She is also the one who get the car washed and cleaned.
13. Who cooks dinner? Judy, except once and a while. And she does better at it too.
14. Who drives when you are together? I think I drive a little more when we are together, but Judy drives a lot and she is certainly the better driver.
15. Who is more stubborn? I don't think either of us is very stubborn, which probably means the true answer is me.
16. Who is the first to admit when they're wrong (whether they are or not)? Judy -- for which I am very thankful.
17. Whose parents do you see the most? Mine
18. Who kissed whom first? I kissed Judy, but didn't do it very well. It isn't always good to have things be a surprise.
19. Who proposed? Me, but not until after I was SURE what the answer would be.
20. Who is more sensitive? Judy, I am not sure that I really understand the concept.
21. Who has more friends? Judy!!
22. Who has more siblings? I win this one, three brothers and three sisters to Judy having one brother and one sister.
23. Who wears the pants in the family? Judy looks good in pants, but I don't think I look good in anything else. We try to talk about things -- sometimes maybe we talk about things too much -- but Judy has been very supportive of me dragging us around the world a bit.

Week In the Life of a Grandma

First thing in the morning I dropped Emmaline and Savannah at school. I didn't get a picture of Emma's school, but this is the Salt Lake Arts Academy where Savannah goes.

I had other cute pictures that just wouldn't down load. I read the helps and that didn't help me so any ideas??

Here is the night time activities of a painter. Wish I could give you the smell that went along with creating this beauty. 

I surely felt like a Yuppie Grandma picking the girls up after snowboarding on Friday. I missed going to the soccer practice. Tyler helped with that while I made Jumblyia (so sorry Charlotte to murder the spelling of that word, and I couldn't spell it well enough to use a dictionary) a wonderful soup with sausage, rice and tomatoes. It was really good. 

   Anyway, it was a fun week and glad I was able to go. Anna Williams the neighbor that I drove over with, after comparing notes about her children and mine, we about decided not to go home. After some tears and a reality check we got on the road. But I will be back really soon. Hope it has warmed up some before that day comes :0). Missing all you guys!! Love Grandma

When did the South Pole Move to Utah??

Ok, Tim this one is for you! Rachel called me and said you had left a comment on my old blog. Somehow for a time there I just didn't have anything to write about. Imagine that, nothing to say.
I am at Tyler and Charlotte's home right now and good grief today started out at 11 degrees! I see you smiling Laura :0)! Holy Cow it was just bitter. The sun came out for just long enough to raise it to 24 and we all thought it was a heat wave. I drove up to Alyssa's and I just couldn't believe how deep the snow is. Piles are everywhere, in parking lots, of course the close spaces, on curb sides, really if all this melts the Salt Lake will fill the whole state! It will just wash everything away with it. Talk about "moisture", Greg, why do you think they prayed for that? It might be because it indicates a "little bit" well there now, has to be a new word coined because if this is "moisture" then I am really in Alaska and no one knows it. By the way LaVar said old ugly Fallon was 40 degrees, our "moisture" melts after it comes and little at a time and no washing away things. Sorry people of Fernley just got a bit of a "wash" with our water coming through... oops.
My laugh of the day was when Tyler and Charlotte were at the Doctor and Oliver and I stayed here. He was hic- upping and I said "what is the matter with you"? Like I didn't know, he laughed and said " I have the HOOK-UPS"!
Tammy is collecting information about a Huntzinger Reunion and whether we should wait until 2010 or have one this summer. She is thinking about July. If any of you that haven't expressed an opinion might want to do so. Their email address is: momandad@gmail.com>
